Angels & Airwaves – We Don’t Need To Whisper

2016 marks the 10 year anniversary of Angels & Airwaves debut album ‘We Don’t Need To Whisper’. Upon it’s release, it struggled to gain popularity among critics who were mostly fans of the satirical & pop aspects of Blink-182 & were turned off by the experimental & cosmic sounds mixed with Tom DeLonge’s nasally & higher pitched vocals on this album. While, I admit, it was a little different than what i had expected… I went into the listening experience with a slightly more open mind, the necessary patience when exploring a  new band & put any expectations aside. The first single released was “The Adventure” & I remember that song singlehandedly setting summer 2006 ablaze for me. From the minute long intro to the powerful drums & hypnotic guitar riffs. It definitely set the pace & sound for what to expect for the rest of the album. Other tracks from the album that have grown to be favorites of mine include: The War, It Hurts, The Gift & despite it’s almost too long 2 minute intro, Valkyrie Missile also makes the list. If you are an alternative rock fan, have yet to listen to this album & wouldn’t mind something slightly conceptual but, as a whole body of work, beautiful… DO IT!     ★★★★☆
